For the established Merlin Kulturzentrum in Stuttgart, Simon Busse together with architect Marco Müller developed an integral concept for the redesign of an hybrid room, which should allow a variety of uses, such as café, restaurant, stage, theatre, concerts, dance events or lectures. The result is an interior design and furnishing comprising robust and modular elements, which can be modified in a few steps and stored in a space-saving way in order to avoid a reduction of the room’s available volume. The combination of self-designed furniture produced in small series and specifically selected standard products provides an ideal furnishing meeting different requirements. Additionally, the atmospheric interior qualities can be adapted by means of curtains, a flexible room divider with multi-functional uses or the integration of a lighting and sound concept.
